More details coming soon!
I'm Dev—a TTC rider, renter, and library denizen in East York's Gerrard India Bazaar. I'm mounting an unexpected campaign for Ward 14's City Councillor, but unexpected doesn't mean unqualified!
I was born and raised in rural New Brunswick, I studied in Ottawa, and I've lived in Toronto for 6 years. I've had an MA in Gender & Equity studies for 11 years, and I've been a blogger for 15, generating over 350 000 clicks. The natural progression was a full length project; I spent the last 3 years writing a book that I'm trying to get published (HMU publishing people!!)
The thing no one tells you about being self-motivated enough to write a book is that when you're done, what used to be your purpose is now just an undervalued asset. I was itching for a new raison d'etre, so the timing of this election is fortuitous.
Animals matter a lot to me. My tiny overpriced studio apartment is shared with my fuzzy wards Cedar and Helix, who are both 6 (and Helix is blind). My apartment makes more sense if you conceive it as the cats renting it with space for their human attendant.
And I love weed. Some people love wine or beer. For me it's the devil's lettuce. I have many (many) gripes with Justin Trudeau, but he will always be the PM that legalized weed.
This Summer, I launched my fledgling micro consultancy Cancel Proofed.
I'm a Green, but I'm Green like a square is a rectangle 🥸
I painted these rocks during the 2020 lock-downs.
I've paid my union dues. I've been a collective bargaining team member twice: with CUPE 1281 in 2010 (small non-profit and social justice workplaces) and much more recently in 2023-2024 with CUPE 3261 (U of T service workers' union).
And I'm a mixed-media artist.
Sometimes I look like this:
I invented the splitterbeard in 2016. It's my signature nightlife face, but I can rock a white lip too💅🏻
Over the next two months, I'm going to convince you that I'm possibly the most interesting guy in Toronto, and I'm definitely the best candidate on the ballot in Ward 14. I'm the future, and so are you!
